Jan Finkel, left, and wife Judy Finkel, right, have provided the naming gift for the Green Room in the Performing Arts Center at Garrett College. The center is expected to open in June.

Many features of the Performing Arts Center at Garrett College are about ensuring patrons' comfort. The Green Room – supported by a naming gift provided by Judy and Jan Finkel – is all about the performers.

"The green room is part of our 'dream come true' at the PAC," said PAC Executive Director Mary Callis. "Currently we use classrooms and other inadequate spaces for the performers to prepare for their shows. This room will give performers the space that they need to properly prepare for their performances."

Judy Finkel said she and husband Jan are pleased their gift is part of the PAC endowment campaign, a Garrett College Foundation initiative that will provide operational funding for a facility that's been decades in the making.

"For many years, we have been working toward the goal of having a performance arts center worthy of the people of Garrett County," said Finkel. "Different ideas and venues have been explored in the past, but we have always felt that Garrett College was the ideal place—natural, appropriate, and multi-purpose.

"Creating a plan that would encompass both a performance space and a Continuing Education component was key to the success of this mission, and we wanted to do our part to help that happen," she added. "It is beyond exciting that this dream is about to come true."

"I truly appreciate the continuing generosity of Judy and Jan Finkel," said Dr. Richard Midcap, Garrett College's president. "They're long-time and enthusiastic supporters of turning this dream into a reality."

"Jan and Judy have been tireless proponents of building a performing arts center in Garrett County," said Cherie Krug, executive director of the Garrett College Foundation. "Their Green Room gift is helping us realize our shared dream of expanding access to the performing arts."

Judy Finkel said the center is recognition of the role performing arts plays in the county.

"Garrett County is extraordinarily rich in talented people," observed Finkel. "For many years, our community has been able to enjoy an amazing array of performance opportunities, both amateur and professional, thanks to tireless workers and volunteers.

"The performance arts center will deliver a state-of-the-art experience for both audiences and performers, including professional touring companies and our local stars of the present and the future," added Finkel. "We can't wait to see them on stage!"

The Performing Arts Center at Garrett College is scheduled to open in June.
