Garrett College to offer Home Repair and Maintenance Training

Classes will be held at the Career Technology Training Center in Accident

Continuing Education and Workforce Development of Garrett College will be offering Home Repair and Maintenance training at the college’s Career Technology Training Center (CTTC) in Accident. The first segment of training begins March 12, 2019. The program is composed of two course segments:

CFC-EPA SECTION 608 CERTIFICATION EXAM PREPARATION

This course is designed to teach the skills and explain Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requirements needed to recover chlorofluorocarbons, known as CFCs. Topics include: theory of refrigeration, environmental issues, different types of refrigerants, safe handling of equipment using refrigerants, recovery and shipping requirements. This is a pre-requisite for the CAMT course listed below.

The Certified Apartment/Building Maintenance Technician (CAMT) course is designed to provide an overview of the apartment and building maintenance profession and prepare students for an entry level position in the industry.

The CAMT course may also be of interest to homeowners looking for information on DIY repairs. Topics include: basic maintenance and repair of electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems; maintenance, repair and installation of appliances, and proper maintenance activities to keep the interior and exterior of a building in excellent condition.

Home repair and maintenance training classes provide for plenty of hands-on experiences to enhance lectures, discussion and computer-based learning.
