GC Foundation achieves Giving Day goal
Online event raised more than $5,000 for 'Pay It Forward' scholarship
The Garrett College Foundation Giving Day last Monday attracted $5,260 in gifts, easily breaking the $5,000 campaign goal.
Giving Day, which took place entirely online, benefited the Foundation's "Pay It Forward” textbook scholarship. The scholarship provides students with a full academic year of textbooks, with those students "paying it forward” by donating those books to the Garrett College Learning Resource Center (LRC) once the academic year is complete for use by future students.
A 2024 Garrett College graduate made the gift that put the campaign over its $5,000 goal. Dr. Richard Midcap, Garrett College's president, said that gift was emblematic of the campaign.
"Our hope is that the students who participate in the 'Pay It Forward' program develop into our next generation of philanthropists starting with their textbook donations to the LRC,” said Midcap.
"We are so pleased by the overwhelming success of Giving Day,” said Cherie Krug, executive director of the Garrett College Foundation. "With the significant cost of textbooks, Giving Day provides the opportunity and convenience for our donors to make their generous gifts online supporting our Paying It Forward textbook scholarship.”
Eight students received the Pay It Forward scholarship for the 2024-25 academic year.
