GC men stun Raptors before upset loss to FCC

Tigney provides key spark; Wilson tallies 21 in win over Montgomery

McHenry, MD - The Lakers needed a spark Saturday afternoon – and Kobe Tigney was only too happy to provide it.

Tigney's 16 points against Montgomery College include 6 straight points after the Raptors built an early, 7-point advantage. Garrett College head coach Matt McCullough said Tigney's early contributors played a pivotal role in the Lakers' 87-81 men's basketball victory.

"Kobe Tigney really helped jump-start us with his play in the first half," said McCullough. "He had 3 straight baskets when we were struggling early that quickly got us back in the game."

Jhaiden Wilson and Darius Jones did their parts, too, scoring 21 and 20, respectively, for the Lakers, who built a 44-36 halftime advantage. Terrance Ward added 14 points and Lamont Powell chipped in with 11 as 5 Lakers reached double digits.

Ezekiel Edwards scored 6 points, blocked 6 shots, and pulled down 10 rebounds for GC.

Marlon Pratt had a game-high 26 points for the Raptors while teammates Romareo Pierre and Sanu Basu added 15 and 11 points, respectively.

Frederick 76, Garrett 73

Frederick, MD – Tyriel Collins had 23 points, 10 assists, 7 rebounds, and 4 steals Monday night in a stat-stuffing effort that helped the Cougars hold off visiting Garrett College for their first Maryland JuCo win of the season.

Alexander Williams (16 points, 7 rebounds), Brayden Jones (14 points, 10 rebounds), and Jack McGaha (11 points) also reached double figures for Frederick (2-12, 1-10).

The Lakers fell to 16-10 overall and 3-9 in the conference. GC hosts CCBC-Dundalk Wednesday at 6 p.m. in its final game of the regular season.
