Job Fair links employers, potential employees
Nearly 40 local employers represented at event hosted at Fairgrounds
Nearly 40 employers were represented at the 33rd annual job fair April 24th, which was co-hosted by Garrett College and Garrett County Business Development at the Garrett County Fairgrounds AG Heritage Hall.
"It's been incredible," said Garrett County Business Development Specialist Connor Norman during the event. "It's almost twice the number of employers as last year."
"The Garrett County Job Fair is an impactful community event that brings together businesses from a wide range of industries with job seekers of all ages – from high school students to adults exploring new opportunities," said Kaitlyn Glotfelty, Garrett College's director of community and professional education.
"We're always excited to welcome back returning businesses, as well as new businesses joining us for the first time," added Glotfelty. "This event truly showcases the power of partnership as we work together to strengthen our community and create meaningful connections between employers and job seekers."
Kristie Alexander – who was representing Firewater Kitchen, Ace's Run Restaurant, Traders Coffee Shop, and Brenda's Pizzeria – said she talked with attendees about multiple employment opportunities.
"We have full-time, year-round positions available, but we definitely need more people in the summer," noted Alexander.
"A lot of young people don't know what they want to do, but they can figure that out with all of the options we have," said Haley Jackson, who was working with Alexander to represent Brenda McDonnell's businesses.
Megan Dillsworth, who was representing the Oakland Wal Mart, said attendee turnout was good.
"We're mostly looking for people seeking full-time employment," said Dillsworth. "We're always hiring."
