Leadership Garrett County accepting applications
Application deadline for 2026 is January 22nd; cohort begins Feb. 5th
Garrett College is now accepting applications for the 2026 cohort of Leadership Garrett County, a community-focused professional development program designed to strengthen the region through informed, engaged leadership.
The application deadline is January 22nd and the program begins February 5th.
Leadership Garrett County, offered through Garrett College, provides participants with a broad understanding of regional issues, organizational structures, and diverse perspectives across industries. Through leadership curriculum, case studies, group and individual exercises, and networking opportunities, students gain the tools and confidence needed to effect positive change within their community.
Throughout the program, participants will hear from guest speakers, explore leadership best practices, and take part in on-site visits and tours of local businesses. The experience culminates with a solution-oriented capstone project in which the cohort presents recommendations to address a challenge or area for improvement within Garrett County.
Kaitlyn Glotfelty, director of community and professional education at Garrett College, said the program's foundation is built on creating a lasting network of knowledgeable, inspired civic leaders.
"Leadership Garrett County is dedicated to building a strong community by empowering its future leaders," said Glotfelty. "The more informed and involved our residents are, the more capable we are of driving meaningful, long-term progress."
Holly Lane, a graduate of the 2025 cohort, said the experience continues to influence the way she leads.
"This leadership class really helped shape my leadership skills in a way I did not expect," said Lane, who is project and groups manager at the Garrett County Chamber of Commerce. "Each lesson sparked new ideas, shifted my mindset, and encouraged me to step into my potential. It challenged me to rethink my approach to communication, decision-making, and collaboration," added Lane.
"The influence this leadership class has had on me goes far beyond the classroom," she continued. "It helped me discover my voice, trust my instincts, and understand the kind of leader I want to be. This experience has continued to shape me long after the class was over."
