Garrett College's adventure sports management program is offering Stand up Paddleboard (SUP) instruction as a result of a grant awarded from the Maryland Agricultural Education & Rural Development Assistance Fund (MAERDAF), administered by the Rural Maryland Council and the Maryland Department of Agriculture.

The grant provided for the purchase of SUP equipment; support for Terry Peterson, GC's associate professor of adventure sports, to become a certified American Canoe Association (ACA) SUP Instructor; and funding for a group of four students enrolled in the College's adventure sports program, to also become certified ACA SUP instructors.

Peterson developed a SUP instructional curriculum of three courses including: Introduction to SUP, SUP Techniques Development, and SUP Instructor Development.

These courses will be offered on a regular basis and are open to the general public, either as a college credit course or as a continuing education course. For more information, contact the adventure sports program at Garrett College at 301-387-3330.
