Understanding and Estimating Health Care Costs to be offered through Garrett College

Garrett College in coordination with the University of Maryland Extension is sponsoring a one-session course, Smart Use Health Insurance™ - Understanding and Estimating Health Care Costs, on two different dates and locations. The first session will be held on Monday, March 5, from 6:30 to 8 pm at the College’s Northern Outreach Center in Grantsville. The second session will be held Monday, March 19, 6:30 to 8 pm at the Southern Outreach Center in Oakland. Students only need to attend one session. .

Taking control of your health care costs makes you a smart health care consumer. This course will assist you in better understanding and estimating your health care expenses. It will explore the various types of health care costs, identify resources to identify costs, and provide resources to assist in planning. Smart Use Health Insurance is a collaborative initiative by University of Maryland Extension and Delaware Cooperative Extension to promote health insurance literacy.

The course is being by Dr. Jesse M. Ketterman, Jr. who works as an Extension Educator for University of Maryland Extension serving Allegany, Garrett, and Washington counties focusing on financial and health insurance literacy. He began his career in the University System of Maryland in 1999 working in student affairs leading wellness related initiatives and transitioned to Extension in 2016. Dr. Ketterman earned a PhD in Educational Leadership from Touro University International, Masters’ degrees in Business Administration and Education from Frostburg State University, and a Bachelor’s Degree from West Virginia Wesleyan. He is an Accredited Financial Counselor.
