Top-seeded GC to host men's, women's title games
WPCC women's final Saturday at 5 p.m., to be followed by men's game
Garrett College will host a Western Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference (WPCC) championship doubleheader Saturday at the Community Aquatic Recreation Complex (CARC) gymnasium.
Garrett College – riding impressive winning streaks in both men's and women's basketball – is the top seed in both the 5 p.m. women's title game and the 7 p.m. men's final.
The Laker women – 19-4 and winners of 14 of their last 16 games – play the winner of Friday night's play-in between third-seeded Beaver County Community College (3-17) and second-seeded Potomac State College of West Virginia University (15-7). GC's men – 16-10, including 7-2 over the last 9 games – play the survivor of Friday night's semifinal between third-seeded Potomac State College (10-14) and second-seeded Beaver County (13-10).
Garrett College's men and women both defeated their potential title-game opponents during the regular season, with each Laker squad routing Beaver County and edging Potomac State.
GC's women defeated Beaver, 87-42, and Potomac State, 61-57. The Laker men defeated Beaver, 79-64, and Potomac State, 95-93.
Both Laker teams will also host the NJCAA Division II Region XX championship tournaments March 3-4 at the CARC.
