All of our students have a unique story to tell. Many start out at Garrett College with plans to transfer to a four-year college or university. A large percentage of our students are the first in their family to attend college. Others seek to advance their career by learning a new skill.
These stories represent journeys of overcoming personal challenges, defining and achieving success, and discovering true passions.

Why did you choose Garrett College?
Answer: I have loved GC since I started attending as a high school dual enrolled student back in 2018. I was homeschooled and GC gave me the opportunity to take some of my course requirements for my diploma while also gaining college credits.

How has attending GC worked to your advantage?
Answer: At age 19, I completed my associate’s degree in General Studies this past fall and was the first in my family to obtain a college degree. I plan on returning to Garrett College this spring to get a second degree in Graphic Design. I recently took an EMT class through Continuing Education & Workforce Development where I received my EMT certification – I am now a member of Southern Garrett Rescue Squad.

What activities are you involved with on campus? How has this added to your college experience?
Answer: I've been engaged at Garrett since my first semester. I have been a member of CRU, the dance team, and Student Government Association (SGA). I am also a work study in the library.

How have Garrett College support services, faculty or staff supported you?
Answer: My favorite part about GC is the caring teachers and small class sizes. My favorite classes are art classes with Ron Skidmore. He is an excellent teacher and he really helps his students experiment with different techniques and encourages us to discover our style with art.
