Our Students and Alumni Pursue Incredible Journeys

All of our students have a unique story to tell. Many start out at Garrett College with plans to transfer to a four-year college or university. A large percentage of our students are the first in their family to attend college. Others seek to advance their career by learning a new skill.

These stories represent journeys of overcoming personal challenges, defining and achieving success, and discovering true passions.

Question: Why did you choose Garrett College?
Answer: I received a basketball scholarship to attend Garrett. I plan ton continue playing basketball at a four-year school after GC and work in the IT field someday.

Question: What activities are you involved with on campus? How has this added to your college experience?
Answer: Basketball is my favorite sport and it is an activity I do throughout majority of my day. This has enhanced my college experience by allowing to work on my skills and mindset for the game so I can get a four-year school to reach out to me.

Question: What activities are you involved with on campus? How has this added to your college experience?
Answer: I've been engaged at Garrett since my first semester. I have been a member of CRU, the dance team, and Student Government Association (SGA). I am also a work study in the library.

Question: COVID-19 has changed our lives dramatically. How have you adapted to the current environment?
Answer: The ways I adapted to COVID-19 is that I changed my mindset about things. COVID-19 actually made me work on myself and do a lot self-care things. Staying indoors made me be creative. I learned new hobbies and worked on my diet.

Question: How has attending GC worked to your advantage?
Answer: Attending GC has worked to my advantage because it has given me more time to save money on college and continue to work on my basketball skills and mindset for the game. I am also a part of the STARS (Striving Together and Reaching Success) Program.

(Note: GC's STARS program is designed to help connect new students with the greater campus community, encourage high academic achievement, and promote degree completion. Students who successfully complete the STARS program can earn as much as a $300 award for the upcoming semester. Students may participate in the program for up to two semesters.)


Question: How have Garrett College support services, faculty or staff supported you?
Answer: Garrett College support services has helped me by checking up and constantly pushing me to do work. Staff have encouraged me to do study hall to make sure I stay on track.
