All of our students have a unique story to tell. Many start out at Garrett College with plans to transfer to a four-year college or university. A large percentage of our students are the first in their family to attend college. Others seek to advance their career by learning a new skill.

Why did you choose Garrett College?
Answer: I chose to attend Garrett College because it allowed me to be away from home and it gave me the great opportunity to play softball with a scholarship! I have many interests in life but the one that intrigues me most is animal science such a veterinary work!

Did COVID-19 impact your college decisions at all? If so, how?
Answer: I didn't allow this pandemic to take away college opportunities. I was very hesitant due to all the risks to me and my family back at home but then again, the college experience was very important to me.

How is your semester going so far?
Answer: This semester is going okay so far; however, I am worried about my pre-calc class. After talking with my mentor, tutoring in the library is a great opportunity!

How has attending GC worked to your advantage?
Answer: Garrett College has done its best to minimize the spread of this pandemic personally. For instance, ordering food from the cafe online, classes online, mandatory masks, some athletes mandatory testing, etc.

What challenges have you faced and how have you overcome them?
Answer: A big challenge I had to face in college is being far away from home. I am five hours away from all I have ever known. My family and I have adjusted to making Facetime calls and they have sent care packages to me.

Answer: The staff at GC is very helpful with informing students about school updates whether it's school hours, work-study opportunities, tutoring sessions, etc.

What are your plans after GC?
Answer: I am going to get certified to become a vet assistant and further my career as a vet technician. Afterwards, I hope to become a veterinarian and become specialized in a certain topic, such as physical therapy for animals, emergency calls, dental care, etc.
