Our Students and Alumni Pursue Incredible Journeys

All of our students have a unique story to tell. Many start out at Garrett College with plans to transfer to a four-year college or university. A large percentage of our students are the first in their family to attend college. Others seek to advance their career by learning a new skill.

These stories represent journeys of overcoming personal challenges, defining and achieving success, and discovering true passions.

Question: Did COVID-19 impact your college decisions at all? If so, how?
Answer: Yes, COVID-19 did impact my college decisions. I wanted to go to a 4-year college and stay in dorm, but once COVID-19 started I didn’t want to risk getting myself sick. I’d rather stay home with my family where I know if something happens, I would be comfortable.

Question: How is your semester going so far?
Answer: My semester is going fine, it can be very challenging here and there but I know it will all be worth it. My grades are good and after this semester, I will be another step closer to getting a degree.

Question: How have Garrett College support services, faculty or staff supported you?
Answer: Staff and faculty have helped me throughout my college experience with grades and more. They’ve explained certain things I did not understand; my mentor checks in with me often and offers to help with anything that I may need.

Question: What advice do you have for current or future students?
Answer: Complete all of your assignments before it is due. Do not wait until the last minute. Get enough rest at night.

Question: What are your plans after GC?
Answer: I enjoy doing my own makeup, and one day want to help create my own in labs with professionals. I hope to be my own boss, travel the world and try to expand my career, and meet inspirational people.
