These stories represent journeys of overcoming personal challenges, defining and achieving success, and discovering true passions.

Major: General Studies

Hometown: Oakland, Maryland

Question: What are your future plans?
Answer: My future plans are to attend a four-year college to pursue at least a bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity. I have been accepted into UMBC, George Washington University, and the University of Maryland, College Park and am awaiting an admissions decision from Georgetown and Cornell.

Question: What activities were you involved in at GC?
Answer: While I was at Garrett, I worked two jobs outside of school. As far as involvement in school goes, I was the lone student ambassador a Garrett during my time here, and was the President of the PTK Honors Society at Garrett as well.

Question: What are your life goals?
Answer: My goals are to graduate college with a good GPA in the computer science/cybersecurity field. I also envision working for a government contractor or government agency after graduation. I personally think that it would be cool to have a bachelor’s degree before I turn 21, but very specific circumstances would have to occur in order for me to achieve this goal.

Question: How has attending GC worked to your advantage?
Answer: Attending Garrett College was very advantageous for me. I was able to find my academic passion and determine what I wanted to major in. Despite being a general studies major, the computer science course I took in the Fall 2020 semester at Garrett led to me wanting to pursue a degree in cybersecurity. I was able to work while at Garrett, which allowed for me to graduate debt free AND have more money than I had when I started college, which is a very unique privilege nowadays.

Question: Do you want to give a shout-out to anyone for helping you get where you are today? (Family, friends, GC staff or faculty, etc.).
Answer: I would like to thank Professor Ziegler, Professor Lewis, and Professor Sisler, who all serve as my initial mentors in the cybersecurity field. If it was not for your passion towards cybersecurity and computer science, I surely would not be as motivated as I am today to pursue a rigorous, but worthwhile degree and career path.
