All of our students have a unique story to tell. Many start out at Garrett College with plans to transfer to a four-year college or university. A large percentage of our students are the first in their family to attend college. Others seek to advance their career by learning a new skill.

Why did you choose Garrett College?
Answer: I chose Garrett College because I joined the baseball team, it is a great school, and I wanted to take advantage of the Garrett County Scholarship Program.

What activities are you involved with on campus? How has this added to your college experience?
Answer: I am involved with the baseball team and it has been great. It has played a big role in my college experience and has been a lot of fun. I am truly blessed to play college baseball while still being at home.

What have you enjoyed most about the Teacher Education program at GC?
Answer: What I have enjoyed most about the Teacher Education program is the small classes has allowed me to really learn about education and has reinforced the fact that I want to be a teacher. After going through this program, I know for sure that I am meant to be a teacher.

Do you feel the Teacher Education program has prepared you for your next step? If so, how?
Answer: The Teacher Education program has well prepared me for the education field and even allowed me to observe in a public school setting which gets my foot in the door. I couldn’t be happier with this program.

How has attending GC worked to your advantage?
Answer: Attending Garrett College allowed me to save a lot of money by getting an AA degree and extending my education almost for free because of the Garrett County Scholarship Program while also helping me to get my foot in the door at Garrett County Public Schools.

What challenges have you faced and how have you overcome them?
Answer: The main challenge I have faced is the amount of work and business of my schedule this semester. It is very challenging to play a sport while finishing up my degree and trying to get the best grades possible. I have been able to do this through many late nights and a lot of hard work.

How have Garrett College support services, faculty or staff supported you?
Answer: Dr. John Taylor had a major impact on my education as well as my life. He is a great professor and advisor who is very knowledgeable, and I respect him greatly.

What are your plans after GC?
Answer: I plan to attend Frostburg State University and major in Elementary/Middle School Dual Certification to become a teacher. I also plan to get a master’s degree in administration in hopes of becoming a principal of a school.
