Your Journey Begins Here

Our Students and Alumni Pursue Incredible Journeys

All of our students have a unique story to tell. Many start out at Garrett College with plans to transfer to a four-year college or university. A large percentage of our students are the first in their family to attend college. Others seek to advance their career by learning a new skill.

These stories represent journeys of overcoming personal challenges, defining and achieving success, and discovering true passions.

Question: Why did you choose Garrett College?
Answer: I chose to attend Garrett College because of the scholarship offered to students who live in the county. Most of my time is spent either reading or writing, and I study languages in my spare time. More specifically, I am currently studying Brazilian Portuguese and Norwegian (Bokmal).

Question: How has attending GC worked to your advantage?
Answer: I can work on my AAS while I'm stuck at home with nowhere to go, so that's rather convenient.

Question: What challenges have you faced and how have you overcome them?
Answer: The biggest challenge I have faced is time management. I now make a list of all the assignments I have in a unit for each subject and when they are due so that I am less likely to forget to complete assignments on time.

Question: How have Garrett College support services, faculty or staff supported you?
Answer: My STARS mentor and advisor(s) are proving to be very helpful in assisting me in planning out my college plans.

Question: What advice do you have for new students?
Answer: If someone is giving you a scholarship, TAKE IT.

Question: What are your plans after GC?
Answer: I want to be a freelance graphic designer (someday) and get a MA in Portuguese. I also want to be a published author.
