Question: Why did you choose Garrett College?
Answer: I was so blessed to have grown up in the beautiful area of Garrett County, Maryland, so I naturally chose Garrett because it was so close to home. I am on track to graduate in May 2021, and I am so excited! I am an artist and musician of several mediums and genres. I love spending time outdoors and being with my family and friends!

Question: How is your semester going so far?
Answer: My semester is going amazing so far! Although it looks a lot different, the teachers and staff at the college have been doing a wonderful job at connecting and building relationships with students. However, it is also bittersweet knowing it is my very last semester at Garrett.

Question: COVID-19 has changed our lives dramatically. How have you adapted to the current environment?
Answer: Adapting has definitely been difficult. I am hands-on learner, so having some classes completely virtual has been hard for me. I have also found it hard to build friendships in classes, because I am not able to interact personally with other students. However, I am very thankful for the virtual learning environment option so that I was able to continue my education during this crazy time!

Question: How has attending GC worked to your advantage?
Answer: Attending Garrett has been a blessing to me. Because of the amazing scholarship opportunities that the college offers, I have been able to save so much time and money by choosing to stay with Garrett. It was also an advantage that I already lived in the local area, so I didn’t have to worry about the “evacuating campus” process when COVID-19 first came about.

Question: Share with us one highlight from the semester.
Answer: A highlight from this semester has been my Ceramics I class on Mondays and Wednesdays. I am so thankful that even during COVID-19, Garrett offered this fully in-person class to students. The small, intimate class setting has allowed me to learn a lot and practice my skills on the potter’s wheel, while making it super safe for students to participate. It is also taught by one of my favorite teachers, Mr. Skidmore. He’s Awesome!

Question: What advice do you have for a new GC student or someone on the fence about attending college?
Answer: My piece of advice for uncertain students would be to GO FOR IT. If you are hesitant about continuing your education, Garrett College is the best place to take that leap of faith. I was hesitant about going to college too, but I am really thankful that I decided to do it. I have grown a lot as an individual at the college, and the people there have made nothing but a positive-lasting impression on my life.

Question: What are your plans after GC?
Answer: I do not plan to transfer schools after graduation, because I believe what I have learned from Garrett College has prepared me enough to start job in the workforce. It would be such a dream to become a full-time graphic designer or a freelance artist.
