Myrtle Beach, S. C. – Bryce Madden and Hunter Dakan combined to allow two runs over 11 innings Saturday in wins over Salem (NJ) Community College and Elgin (IL) Community College, respectively.
"We got two really good pitching performances on Saturday. When you only give up two unearned runs in two games, you have a good chance of winning," observed GC head coach Eric Hallenbeck.
Madden, who took a no-hitter into the fifth inning against Salem, allowed just one hit and a walk with seven strikeouts over five innings. Jose Payares and Luke Ross each pitched a scoreless inning as they combined with Madden on a five-hitter.

Garrett had to come from behind against Elgin as the Spartans scored a pair of unearned runs in the top of the first inning. Dakan then slammed the door on Elgin's offense, spacing four hits and a walk over his six innings.
The Lakers pulled even with single runs in the first two innings before breaking the game open with a five-run fourth. Madden (2-for-4, run) and Noah Broadwater (2-for-4, run, two RBI) had run-scoring singles before Screen slammed a three-run double to cap the fourth-inning explosion.
Isaac Rodriguez pitched a perfect seventh with one strikeout to close out Elgin.
The University of Cincinnati-Clermont defeated the Lakers, 6-3, on Sunday.
Gillott went 2-for-2 and walked twice in four plate appearances, and Ethan Earley doubled and drove in a run for the Lakers, but GC only totaled six hits in the Clermont loss.
