Broadwater named player to watch
Garrett College outfielder makes Collegiate Baseball ‘watch list’
Garrett College’s Darrick Broadwater has been named to Collegiate Baseball’s 2023 Junior College "Players to Watch."
"He can run, has an above-average arm, and has the capability to hit for both power and average," GC head baseball coach Eric Hallenbeck said of Broadwater, who hit .301 last year with five doubles, four homers and 18 runs batted in. Broadwater was perfect on defense, handling 43 outfield chances without committing an error.
Even more promising, Hallenbeck said Broadwater "hasn’t reached his full potential yet as a baseball player."
Hallenbeck said Broadwater’s strengths go beyond the baseball field.
"Darrick is a great person and teammate," Hallenbeck said of the Keyser, WV native. "He’s very unselfish and he’s like a sponge when it comes to learning the game. He also gets it done in the classroom, with a cumulative grade-point average over 3.0."
