GC men split a pair of league contests

PG rallies past Lakers; Thompson nets 29 in win over Allegany

Deonte Cooke and Jasir Tremble combined for 51 points Saturday afternoon as the Prince George’s Community College men’s basketball team rallied past Garrett College, 89-78.

Cooke (13 rebounds) scored 27 points and Tremble (four assists) had 24 as the Owls (19-3 overall, 9-2 league) overcame a 36-31 halftime deficit. Reed Rebstock (10 rebounds, four steals) and Anthony Perry scored 13 and 11 points, respectively, and Elijah Crawford added nine points for PG.

Nyrek Wheeler paced GC with 17 points, game highs in rebounds (14) and assists (five), three steals and four blocks.

Kamau Mitchell scored 15 points, Rob Smith and AJ Crosby (eight rebounds, two blocks) added 11 each, and Korey Mitchum contributed 10 as the Lakers placed five players in double figures.

The Owls – currently battling Howard (16-5, 7-2), Cecil (13-10, 6-3), and Harford (11-11, 6-3) for the conference lead – went 29-for-33 (87.9 percent) from the free-throw line. The Lakers fell to 14-9 overall and 3-6 in the Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference.

Garrett plays at Northern Virginia Community College Wednesday night at 8 p.m. and at Community College of Beaver County Saturday at 3 p.m.

McHenry, MD – Munchy Thompson scored 29 points and Kamau Mitchell added 27 off the bench last Wednesday night as the Lakers downed local rival Allegany College of Maryland.

AJ Crosby (four assists, four blocks) posted a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Nyrek Wheeler added seven points and a game-high 16 rebounds as the Lakers finished with a 40-32 advantage on the boards.

Tekao Carpenter led ACM with 29 points. Dalyn Brandon (19 points) and Leon Elung (10 points) also reached double figures for the Trojans (15-10, 4-4).
