GC women outlast CCBC-Catonsville
Hailey Newsome scored 19 points, hauled in 11 rebounds, and dished out seven assists last Wednesday as Garrett College's women's basketball team outlasted Community College of Baltimore County-Catonsville, 69-67.
"Hailey has taken her game to the next level these last two games," said GC head coach JT Lewis. Newsome had a game-high 13 rebounds to go along with nine points and four assists in Garrett's previous game, a 57-55 loss to Prince George's Community College.
Jameriah Butler (five rebounds, three assists, two steals) added 15 points and Gianna Michaux posted a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Lady Lakers (6-6 overall, 3-3 region). Carly Wilt (eight rebounds) and Da'shai Morton-Hall (five rebounds, two steals) each scored nine points, and Amarriah Brown chipped in with four points for GC.
Lewis, whose squad has been operating with seven players for the last four games, will be back to 10 players for the second semester, starting with Wednesday's 5 p.m. home game against Hagerstown Community College.
"That should help with fatigue and give us the ability to press on defense," said Lewis.
