Garrett College’s new Marine Technology program recently produced its first five completers, all of whom met the program’s requirements to earn a Garrett College certificate as a marine technician.
This comprehensive, hands-on program equips students with both practical skills and foundational theoretical knowledge critical for careers in marine technology. Instructional topics included internal combustion engine theory, electrical systems, engine diagnostics, preventive maintenance, drive systems, and customer service.
In addition to earning their college certificates, students had the opportunity to obtain industry-recognized certifications through Mercury Marine, enhancing their employability and technical credentials. The training program ran from January through March, encompassing a total of 100 instructional hours delivered through a combination of classroom and hands-on lab sessions.
The next cohort of the Marine Technology program is scheduled to begin in January 2026.
Prospective students are encouraged to contact Joshua Hook at 301-387-3087 for additional information.
