JCLS to highlight mushrooms of Garrett County
GC assistant professor to discuss types of mushrooms found locally
Bryan Lewis, an assistant professor of mathematics at Garrett College, has interests that go well beyond numbers. One of those interests – mushrooms – will be the topic of this month’s Joan Crawford Lecture Series (JCLS) presentation.
"We’ll talk about edible, beautiful, poisonous, and otherwise fascinating mushrooms in our woods," Lewis said of his presentation, which takes place at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, April 29th in the Performing Arts Center at Garrett College.
Lewis said to expect a wide-ranging presentation as he discusses all things mushroom.
"We will discuss the basics of what mushrooms are, how they grow, and their relationships with plants and the ecosystem," said Lewis. "We’ll also talk about tips on foraging and just appreciate the weirdness and wonder of these organisms."
The Joan Crawford Lecture Series honors dynamic educator Joan R. Crawford, who died in 2010 after serving the Garrett College community for 30 years in a variety of faculty and staff roles.
