Lakers earn 3rd win before Essex loss
GC has 5 different goal scorers in victory over Carroll CC

Garrett College’s Ben Lohr gets past Carroll Community College goalkeeper Alexander Nicolaides on the way to scoring a goal in last Thursday’s 5-0 victory over the Lynx.
CCBC-Essex, ranked sixth nationally in NJCAA Division II, stayed unbeaten in Region 20 men’s soccer with Saturday’s 8-0 victory over host Garrett College.
Knight Rahiem Wright-Keizer recorded two goals and three assists while teammate Angel Vargas-Hernandez finished with four assists. Seven Knights scored goals.
"Essex is ranked sixth in the country for a reason," said GC head coach Jonathan Price. "But we learned a lot about ourselves and hopefully grew as a team. We tried to make sure that we got better every way we could throughout the game, and I believe that happened."
The Knights (9-3 overall, 7-0 region) and Howard Community College (10-1, 9-0) are the last two undefeated teams in the region. They play each other at Howard on October 16th.
GC starting goalkeeper Wyatt Hull finished with 12 saves. Three Knight netminders shared the shutout.
Garrett is 3-5 overall and 3-3 in NJCAA Division II Region 20.
GC 5, Carroll 0
Five different Lakers scored goals and Jeronimo Valencia record a pair of assists as the Lakers scored all their goals in the first half of last Thursday’s contest.
Darius Hamilton, Macdiel Marquez, Lucas Alonso, Ben Lohr, and Lucio Bianchi each scored goals as GC notched its third victory of the season. Wyatt Hull and James Helmintoller-Quantz combined for three saves in goal while splitting the shutout, with each playing a half for the Lakers.
"The Carroll game was a great team effort," said GC head coach Jonathan Price. "We were able to play our entire roster, and there was not significant drop off. This shows the hard work those players a little further down the roster have been doing in practice.
"A lot of these guys are players we will count on next year, so it is important for them to play as many minutes as possible," added Price. "It was great to get a big win for our fans as well."
AACC 4, Garrett 1
Arnold, MD – The Riverhawks scored in the first minute of both halves during Tuesday night’s victory over visiting Garrett College.
"We’ve done that three times now," GC head coach Jonathan Price said of permitting goals in the opening minute of a half.
Alex Cartagena scored just 45 seconds into the match off a Lucas Cerulla feed and Knolin Walker added an unassisted goal as Anne Arundel Community College built a 2-0 lead. Jack Bell’s goal 37 seconds after halftime stretched the lead to 3-0.
Ben Lohr scored unassisted on a 25-yard free kick over the head of AACC goaltender Ethan Kiniry in the 66th minute to cut the Riverhawks’ lead to 3-1.
"Ben played another really good game," said Price.
Aydan Simms scored on a free kick just inside of the post with less than four minutes remaining to finalize the score as Anne Arundel finished with a 27-10 shots advantage, including 15-6 in shots on goal.
Price saw several positives despite the loss.
"Our second half was much better," said Price. "Ben [Lohr] played another good game and Wyatt Hull [11 saves] was good in goal.
"Our adjustments also worked well – we’ve gotten to the point where we can effectively switch formations on the fly," said Price.
