Lady Laker Da’shai Morton-Hall scores two of her 20 points on the way to a triple-double last Saturday against visiting Anne Arundel Community College.
Da'shai Morton-Hall's triple-double Saturday afternoon led Garrett College to an 83-39 women's basketball victory over visiting Anne Arundel Community College.
Morton-Hall finished with 20 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists, and four steals while teammate Hailey Newsome had a game-high 23 points to go along with 10 rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
"Da'shai is someone that has really turned it up for our team," said GC head coach JT Lewis, whose squad improved to 5-4 overall and 2-2 in NJCAA Division II Region 20. "Being an undersized team, it's really important we attack the glass – and she has done a great job of that lately."
Lewis said Newsome "had a good night scoring the ball and did a good job establishing an inside presence for us early in the game."
GC held the Riverhawks to just 21 first-half points while building a 15-point halftime cushion.
"We have been working on our help-side defense," Lewis noted. "I think we did a better job of getting over and helping each other out defensively Saturday."
Gianna Michaux (four steals, three assists) had 15 points and Jameriah Butler added 11 as the Lady Lakers placed four players in double figures. Carly Wilt had eight points, nine rebounds, five assists, and two steals in another solid, all-around effort.
Kiara Vaselaros and Kaylee Motsinger scored 11 points each to lead the winless Riverhawks (0-12, 0-7).
GC plays at Jamestown (NY) Community College (9-6) Wednesday at 2 p.m. and at Prince George's Community College (3-10, 1-4) Saturday at noon.
