Mt. MD Music Institute set for July 6-10 at GC
Choral, instrumental band, and piano options available by age group
The Mountain Maryland Music Institute, in its 10th year of operation, will be offering three courses as part of a summer enrichment program July 6-10 in the Performing Arts Center at Garrett College.
Elementary choral (ages 9-12, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.), instrumental band (13-17, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.), and piano (8-17, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.) courses are all scheduled.
The primary focus of the choral course will be singing with movement in preparation to perform a mini-musical. The piano course will focus on technique, repertoire, and music theory in a group setting. The primary focus of the instrumental band course will be technique, ensemble repertoire, and music theory.
Students in all three courses will have the opportunity to enjoy swimming at the Edwards Community Aquatic and Recreation Complex. They will also participate in a public performance, which will be the culminating event in which students can display their progress.
The cost for each course is $249, and space is limited.
Scholarships are available for participants demonstrating financial need through the Community Trust Foundation and the Naylor Family Trust Fund. This summer enrichment program is also funded in part by the Robinson Family Endowment through the Garrett College Foundation.
The primary purpose of the MMMI is to provide additional support and opportunities for local public music education programs, as well as homeschool networks in and around Garrett County.
