Myers named to Record's Top 100 list
Third time GC Trustees vice-chair among state's Top 100 Women

Karen Myers, vice-chair of the Garrett College Board of Trustees, has been named to The Daily Record's 30th anniversary Maryland's Top 100 Women for 2025.
Towson, MD – Karen Myers, vice-chair of the Garrett College Board of Trustees, has been named to The Daily Record's 30th anniversary Maryland's Top 100 Women for 2025.
Myers, who is president of Mountaineer Log & Siding Company, is also included in the Daily Record's Circle of Excellence. That honor is reserved for individuals who have made the Top 100 list three times.
"I feel very humbled by receipt of this award again and to be named to the Circle of Excellence," said Myers, who was also the recipient of the coveted Heise Entrepreneurial Spirit Award by the Garrett County Chamber of Commerce in 2024.
"As a local Garrett County girl, I never doubted my ability to achieve because my parents and teachers always supported my goals," added Myers. "I want everyone in Garrett County to recognize that there are no boundaries, and that the ability to achieve lies within each of us, but especially for students in Garrett County."
Myers noted that growing up in rural Garrett County creates some challenges, but said those challenges are outweighed by the advantages.
"We don't have all of the facilities or courses offered in the more metropolitan areas, but, overall, we have a dynamic work ethic and the ability to achieve by applying ourselves and providing a little extra effort," said Myers. "There are no limits for our youth and students. I hope some part of my leadership and personal example will give each of them just the right amount of encouragement to reach their goals and beyond."
The Record's recognition is just the latest honor earned by the ninth-generation Garrett Countian. She was both Garrett County Woman of the Year and Garrett County Employee of the Year in 1996, and Garrett County Golden Ambassador in 1999.
Myers, a member of the DCL100 Committee that's planning this year's Deep Creek Lake 100th anniversary events, will be recognized along with her fellow honorees on May 5th at the Towson University Arena.
Myers has served on the Garrett College Board of Trustees since 2021. She was elected vice-chair of the Board of Trustees last year when then-Vice-Chair Jason Rush moved into the chair's role.
"I'm honored to serve as vice-chair of the Garrett College Board of Trustees," said Myers.
"Being recognized once for this list is an honor itself – three times is certainly very impressive and well deserved," said Rush. "It's always nice when Garrett County residents are recognized at the state level, and Karen is a great representative of the qualities the Circle of Excellence represents.
"Her impact through leadership, community service and mentoring extend well beyond our county borders," added Rush.
Myers has served since 1979 as president of Mountaineer Log & Siding Company, Inc., which develops log home packages in the Mid-Atlantic area. She was also president of Recreational Industries, which owned the Wisp Resort, from 2001 to 2012.
Myers has been president, vice president and member of the Garrett County Chamber of Commerce's Board of Directors. She also served as a member of the Maryland Economic Development Commission, and as president and director of the Garrett County Board of Realtors.
She also served on the Steering Committee of the Western Maryland Economic Development Task Force.
