Dr. Shadow JQ Robinson, who became president of Frostburg State University in July, visited Garrett College on Monday to tour the McHenry campus and meet with GC officials.

“We really appreciated President Robinson carving out the time to visit our campus and talk about the FSU-Garrett relationship,” said Dr. Richard Midcap, Garrett College’s president. “I was pleased to hear his commitment to enhancing the transfer process for the many Garrett College students who matriculate to FSU.”

Robinson highlighted the visit on a Facebook post released Monday night.

“We discussed transfer partnerships and our shared passion for supporting the communities and cities across Mountain Maryland and the broader Appalachian region,” wrote Robinson.

“They [Garrett College] have so much to be proud of and I can’t wait to welcome some of our Garrett College transfers to Frostburg State University in the fall,” Robinson added.

Midcap and his senior leadership team briefed the FSU president on initiatives in which Garrett and FSU currently partner. They also discussed potential new partnerships in a variety of spaces.

“Everyone wins when Western Maryland’s institutions of higher education work collaboratively,” said Midcap. “I expect we will have an even stronger relationship with FSU under President Robinson.”

Robinson most recently served as provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs at the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith. He was dean of the College of Engineering and Natural Sciences at the University of Tennessee at Martin prior to his service at Fort Smith.

Robinson earned a Ph.D. in theoretical nuclear physics from Rutgers University in 2002. He also holds bachelor’s degrees in physics and astronomy from the University of Kentucky.
