Austin Pelland, left, accepts congratulations from Instructor Al Vansickle upon completion of Garrett College's diesel mechanic program.
Oakland resident Austin Pelland recently completed Garrett College's diesel mechanic program, which equipped him with the skills and knowledge to excel in the high-demand diesel industry.
"Garrett College's diesel mechanic program addresses a growing need for trained diesel mechanics," said Donna Bittinger, assistant director of workforce development. "Graduates like Austin are entering the workforce with a high level of skill, ready to make an impact in their field and community."
The diesel mechanic program, offered through the College's Continuing Education & Workforce Development division, provides hands-on training with diesel engines and heavy-duty equipment. It gives students a strong foundation in areas including engine diagnostics, repair, hydraulics, electrical systems, and preventive maintenance.
The 88-hour program combines classroom learning with practical experience, ensuring students are well-prepared to meet industry standards and safety requirements.
The next diesel mechanic program begins on January 27th, with registration closing on January 6th. Students are encouraged to register early to qualify for available financial assistance opportunities and to secure a spot, as interest in this program is high.
