Largo, MD – Sophomore guard Willie Rivera, Jr. scored 16 of his game-high 24 points in the first half Saturday afternoon as Prince George's Community College built a 15-point lead on the way to an 81-61 men's basketball victory over visiting Garrett College.

Rivera made 6-of-8 first-half field goals, including 3-of-5 from behind the arc, as the Owls improved to 16-4. PG is in first place in both the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II Region 20 and Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference with identical 6-1 records.

Jermaine Taylor and Isaiah Mansaray each scored 10 points while Dyan Carter (team-high nine rebounds) and Lynn King III scored eight each for the balanced Owls.

Nehemiah Johnson (game-high 12 rebounds) and Keyonta Johnson (seven rebounds, two steals) scored 13 and 11 points, respectively, to lead the Lakers, who fell to 2-4 in Region 20 and 6-8 overall with their second consecutive loss. Donovahn Keyes and Petar Kos each contributed six points and five rebounds, while Laker teammate Tyree Eloise contributed six points and three assists.

Cory Harper's jumper gave Garrett a 12-10 lead almost midway through the first half, but the Owls ended the half on a 29-12 run to build their 39-24 halftime cushion. Taylor's jumper created a 12-12 tie and Brazil Hutchinson's layup with 9:03 remaining in the half put PG ahead to stay.

Rivera took over from there, scoring 14 of the Owls' final 25 points of the first half. PG started the second half with a 13-4 run that included Rivera's final eight points of the contest as the Owls opened up a 24-point lead.

The Lakers shot just 34 percent from the field, including 4-for-24 (17 percent) from the 3-point line.
