Undefeated SUNY Niagara snaps GC win streak
Lakers' 8-game run had included a 6-0 start this hoop season
Sanborn, NY – Chioke Marshall scored 16 points off the bench Sunday afternoon as the State University of New York (SUNY) Niagara men's basketball team downed visiting Garrett College, 72-61.
Niagara, ranked 16th in the latest NJCAA Division II national poll, improved to 10-0 while handing the Lakers (6-1) their first loss of the season. Garrett had won eight straight going back to the tail end of the 2023-24 campaign.
Jalen Duff (14 points, five assists), Jamyier Patton (13 points, six rebounds), Daniel Reyes (12 points, 11 rebounds), and Camron Dyer (10 points, six rebounds) also reached double digits for the Thunder Wolves.
K'Shawn Scott (seven rebounds) led GC with 12 points while Nasir Coleman and Gavin Jackson scored 11 each. Carmello Myles had nine points and a game-high 20 rebounds for the Lakers, who faced a 46-35 halftime deficit.
GC 89, Jamestown 66
Jamestown, NY – Carmello Myles (six rebounds, two blocks) scored a game-high 16 points Saturday afternoon as six Lakers reached double figures.
GC's Keyonta Johnson scored 14 points in 18 minutes on 6-of-10 shooting off the bench, and fellow reserve Marqui Olds added 13 points, seven rebounds, and four assists. Nasir Coleman and Gavin Jackson added 12 points apiece, and Stephen Robinson contributed 10 points.
The Lakers raced to a 49-29 halftime lead.
Travis Castro led Jamestown with 15 points, while Marcus Wynter (eight rebounds, eight assists) and Federico Foddai added 13 each.
GC 79, AACC 56
Catonsville, MD – Nasir Coleman and Gavin Jackson each had 18 points and four assists last Wednesday as the Lakers coasted past Anne Arundel Community College in their NJCAA Division II Region 20 opener.
K'Shawn Scott (12 points, 12 rebounds) and Carmello Myles (12 points, 10 rebounds, five assists) each posted a double-double for Garrett, which had a 40-26 halftime lead. Marqui Olds added 11 points off the bench.
Miles Evans led AACC with a team-high 17 points.
