Program Eligibility Requirements
Garrett College’s Radiologic Technology program is a selective admission program with specific eligibility requirements. Acceptance to Garrett College does not guarantee entry into the program. Meeting the program eligibility requirements does not guarantee acceptance into the program.
To be considered for the program, applicants must:
- Be at least 18 years old by September 1
- Pass a drug screening and criminal background check including fingerprinting

Meet one of the following academic criteria:
- Unweighted high school GPA of 3.0 or higher, including grades of B or better in Biology, Chemistry, and Math
- OR 12 earned college credits of general education courses, including English and math, and unweighted cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
- OR ACT composite score of 21 or higher
- OR SAT scores of at least 480 in Reading and 530 in Math
- Demonstrate readiness for Anatomy and Physiology I by earning a grade of C or better in the prerequisite course (BIO101 or BIO104) or by passing the Biology Placement Assessment.
- Achieve minimum scores on the ACT® WorkKeys® Assessments: Level 5 in Applied Math, Level 5 in Workplace Documents, and Level 5 in Graphic Literacy
- Complete at least 8-16 hours of observation in a hospital-based imagining department
- Have reliable transportation to and from clinical sites
- Provide documentation of medical insurance, healthcare provider CPR certification, and a recent physical exam with required immunizations.
Note: Requirements may change. The College reserves the right to revise program and admission standards.
Program Application Process
The application process has three phases, and candidates are notified after each phase. Final selection is based on meeting requirements and a weighted review of academic performance, ACT® WorkKeys® scores, an interview, and a writing sample. PHASE 1: Application & Required Materials (Deadline: February 28, 2027)- Apply for general admission to Garrett College (garrettcollege.edu/applynow)

Order official copies of prior learning credentials, including transcripts from all prior colleges, be sent to the GC Admissions Office. (Previous GC students do NOT need to order Garrett College transcripts.) To be eligible for the Radiologic Technology program, your documentation must meet one of the following:
- High school transcript with unweighted GPA of 3.0 or higher, including grades of B or better in Biology, Chemistry, and Math
- OR College transcript with 12 earned credits of general education courses, including English and math, and unweighted cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
- OR ACT composite score of 21 or higher
- OR SAT scores of at least 480 in Reading and 530 in Math
- Submit the Radiologic Technology Program application (deadline March 31), along with a non-refundable $30 program application fee.

Take the following ACT® WorkKeys® National Career Readiness Assessments and achieve the required scores: Applied Math with a minimum score of Level 5, Workplace Documents with a minimum score of Level 5, and Graphic Literacy with a minimum score of Level 5.

- You may transfer your official ACT WorkKeys Assessment scores to Garrett College if you completed the required assessments at another testing site within the past three years and met the minimum required scores. For guidance on this process, please contatct the Garrett College Testing Center (301-387-3715 or testingcenter@garrettcollege.edu for assistance.
- WorkKey testing at Garrett College will run from November 10, 2026, to February 23, 2027.

Demonstrate readiness for Anatomy and Physiology I by earning a grade of C or better in the prerequisite course (BIO101 or BIO104) or by passing the Biology Placement Assessment.

Complete at least 8-16 hours of observation in a hospital-based imagining department. Suggested sites include:
- UPMC Western Maryland Job Shadow/Clinical Rotation Request Form
- WVU Medicine Job Shadowing Program
- Completed observation form must be submitted by the observation site to radtech@garrettcollege.edu.
Application and all materials must be received by February 28th for full consideration. The application fee must be paid before processing begins.

PHASE 2: Interview & Writing Sample (March 2027)Select Phase 1 candidates will be invited to campus to submit a writing sample and participate in an interview with the selection committee.
Students will be notified of conditional acceptance status by April 1, 2027.
PHASE 3: Conditional Acceptance Documents due May 1, 2027Selected Phase 2 candidates will receive notification of conditional acceptance. Before formal acceptance, candidates must complete fingerprinting and a background check through a designated provider. Instructions for this process will be included with the conditional acceptance invitation. The candidates' fingerprinting and background check costs are the candidates' responsibility and are not included in the $30 program application fee. Documentation of the following must be received by May 1 for final consideration.
- Medical insurance
- Background check and fingerprinting
- Healthcare provider CPR certification
- Recent medical evaluation and drug screening

Immunizations required by clinical rotation sites
- UPMC Western Maryland
- WVU Medicine (see immunizations listed on the Health Information form)
- Other clinical sites may require immunizations not listed here.
All requirements must be completed and documentation received by May 1. Formal program acceptance will be communicated by May 15.

Approval & Accreditation
Garrett College has received Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC) approval to begin the program.
The program is in the process of applying for initial accreditation with the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic (JRCERT).
