Account Information
Each credit student is issued a unique user name and temporary password at initial registration. This information is mailed to students via the U.S. Postal Service. Each student must reset his or her password at initial login and set up password recovery by answering uniquely identifiable questions. The distance learning management system uses the same login and password. The Information Technology Department is responsible for the creation and verification of student network accounts. The Office of Distance Learning sends an email indicating procedures for resetting passwords, offers a link on the Blackboard server to recover a forgotten password, and refers in-person inquiries to the Information Technology Department for additional help.
Student Network Account
This account is mandatory--you must have a student network account. A Garrett College Student Network account allows you to access the Garrett College Student Network and all of its features. This account permits you to login to and use computers in classrooms, labs, and the library. This account also permits printing from these computers.
Student Email Account
This account is mandatory--you must have a student email account. A Garrett College Student Email account gives you an email address—firstname.lastname@students.garrettcollege.edu Garrett College faculty and staff members use this email address to communicate a wide variety of information about school work, projects, deadlines, closures, etc.
Student Portal Account
This account is mandatory--you must have a student portal account. A Garrett College Student Portal account gives you access to the Garrett College Student Information System. This account permits you to view your schedule of classes, check grades, view billing statements, view unofficial transcripts, and more.
Student PowerFaids Account
This account is not mandatory--you do not have to have a student PowerFaids account. A Garrett College Student PowerFaids account gives you access to the Garrett College Financial Aid system, PowerFaids. This account permits you to view your financial aid awards, accept or decline loans, and more. You will only have this account if you receive financial aid.
Student Blackboard Account
This account is not mandatory--you do not have to have a student Blackboard account.A Garrett College Student Blackboard account gives you access to the Garrett College Blackboard System. Blackboard is an web-based learning management system (LMS) designed to support full or partial online courses. You will only have this account if you enroll in online courses.
